Who am I?
Welcome to my site. I started drawing before I started school. To keep me entertained, all my mother had to do was buy me a sketch pad. Back then, I would draw my favourite cartoon characters.
I’ve had an interesting and chequered career. I joined the RAF straight from school and trained to be an avionics technician. I was very fortunate in that I got to travel extensively. On leaving the RAF, I worked for British Aerospace as a trainer in Saudi Arabia. It was there that I picked up a pencil again, after many years of neglect, and started drawing pubs in great detail (Not sure whether this was a form of therapy or self-induced torture!)
On return to the UK, I settled in Wiltshire and entered the fascinating world of audiovisual and home automation systems. I eventually created my own business which I successfully ran for over 16-years. I’m very proud that my clients included a very famous movie star and a celebrity chef.
Regretfully, I spent many years not creating any art, but picked up a pencil again during lockdown and tried my hand at watercolours.
I’ve now converted my office into an art studio and work as an artist. I love architecture, especially old buildings. I purposely omit things like satellite dishes and cars to evoke the tranquillity of a bygone era. I also enjoy drawing other subjects such as vintage tractors, animals and military aircraft. Most of my architectural scenes are local or of the place of my birth, Wales.
All my art is available as high-quality prints, printed on A3 paper. If you live in a beautiful home and desire a one-off original, I do accept commissions.
I’m completely self-taught, so consider my work to be fairly unique, not having been influenced by a tutor or even a book. I truly hope you see something you like!
Thank you for looking.
Colin May.
